This week, grade 11 students took on the role of advisors to the Chinese Emperor. Their task was to devise a plan to strengthen China after its defeats in the Opium Wars and weakening as a result of the Taiping Rebellion. The students chose to focus on improvements to the military, education system, welfare and economy, and political and social spheres. Below are the specific ideas that were agreed upon. Next week, we will see if the Emperor acts on these suggestions.
