First, a huge thank you for all of your support of your children and the teachers during this challenging time. Today we completed seven weeks of online learning! A bit of a milestone I think. I would like to reassure you that you are doing a great job of balancing being parents and helping your children along the road to learn. We recognize that you are not teachers but do rest assured that the hard work you and your children are doing is having a positive effect. You may be at the stage of pulling your hair out, but students are making progress. Check out some of the learning from Ms Lauma’s students.
If you happen to be near the water watch out for Aslam’s Monster Boat!
Check out what has been happening in Ms Ancilla’s class KG3.
Rafef has been cooking as well and made a fridge tart. Luckily she has given us the recipe to try out too!
What are teachers doing?
We are reflecting on your feedback from the parent survey and, where applicable, making changes to our content and delivery. If you still have concerns about this please do contact the teacher directly with specific examples. Teachers continue to work very hard to ensure no children are at a disadvantage by offering choice and personalizing feedback to your children. This feedback allows students to reflect on and improve their learning. So while our buildings are closed, learning continues. We have had great success (and many challenges) connecting with students face to face using Google Meet or Webex, and like everything new, with practice comes improvement.
How do we ensure student, parent and teacher well being as we continue to be so physically distanced?
Here are some tips.
Prioritize: Step away and come back later. If you don’t get it done you don’t get it done. Knowing when to stop for a while is important.
Hobbies or Passions: Make time for yourself. Do things you enjoy. Let your children have down time doing things they enjoy. If it means watching a movie that’s ok. It gives you a break!
Exercise: If you can get out and about then do it. Kids on bikes and you walking if you are in an area that permits this. Try the PE videos or checkout Wellness Wednesday Jam Jam exercises.
Communicate: If you don’t know what to do then please let us know. It will save frustrations for both you and your child.
Disconnect: Turn off those devices at a certain time and don’t switch them on again until a certain time. Have breaks from devices in between activities.
Celebrate: the good stuff. Your children are amazing human beings living through unprecedented times as are you. Celebrate each other, be kind and remind yourself of all the good things in your life.
Wishing you a relaxing and sunny weekend here in Sohar and see you next week?
