Hello parents… this newsflash includes two sections; one for exam families of students (G10 and G 12) and one for all families.

Exam students:

Both the IB (for DP) and Cambridge (for IGCSE) have confirmed that exams are expected to continue as scheduled. Parents will be informed if this changes. With small class sizes and plenty of space, ABIS is fortunate to be able to meet all required invigilation requirements while also ensuring that students taking exams can be sufficiently spaced to eliminate physical contact (3+ meter spacing). Please contact Mr. Mwita or Mr. Adams if you have any questions.

All families:

Some thoughts regarding supporting your child and encouraging good habits at home.
Create a schedule: routines are helpful for children, young and old.
Communicate with the teachers, even more than you think is necessary: if in doubt, have your child ask their teacher for clarity. Remind them write to confirm when a task is submitted; remind them to write if an assignment will be late.
Set boundaries at home: if you have room at home, some spaces should be reserved for school work while others should be reserved for breaks. Encourage your child to work in the same place each day (e.g. at a dining room table) and not in the same place where they play or relax (e.g. their bedroom)
Take breaks: children and adults need regular, short breaks in order to maintain focus. A 5-minute walk or even just a drink of water can make a great difference in long-term concentration. Longer breaks for exercise, chores and entertainment should be scheduled as well.
Alternate shifts with your spouse: parents can get very stressed during this time. If you have the option, take turns with coordinating your child’s work.
