In Grade 2 we have been learning to partition numbers to make it easier to solve some addition and subtraction problems. We enjoyed being able to write our own problems to solve by partitioning. We are ready to start solving problems where we must add or subtract tens as well as ones.

We have also been looking at ways to display information on tally graphs, bar graphs and scaled pictographs. In learning about graphs we found out that like Maps, graphs also need a title and labels and sometimes graphs have a key as well. As we began to analyze some graphs we learned to use some new words too, like ‘fewer than’ and ‘common’. We had to use careful reading skills to understand and answer the questions about graphs.
