We have been recording the weather in Sohar each day this week and comparing it with another city of our choice. After collecting this data each day, we were able to compare the weather in the two cities. Some of us chose cities that are experiencing very cold weather and so we had to learn about negative numbers as well.

One day we used the expected high temperatures for each city and ordered them from the warmest to the coolest and the next day we did the same with the lowest temperatures. After looking at the weather in other parts of the world, the morning temperatures in Sohar don’t seem quite so cold.

It was wonderful to be able to celebrate Ms Maryam’s birthday with her on Tuesday. She is a very special person in our class. Some of us even managed to count her birthday claps in Arabic!

After visiting the quail on the farm last week, this week we had the chance to peel and taste a quail egg which was a new experience for many. We noticed that the inside shell of the quail egg is a beautiful colour.

We have begun to research a type of Extreme Weather this week. We have been learning to write a definition and the value of using an Index when searching for information in non-fiction books.

We are investigating how long it takes water to evaporate. We put 60mls of water in a beaker last Thursday and a week later after leaving it in our classroom space, we notice that 20mls have evaporated. We wonder if another 20mls will evaporate by next week? And we would also like to find out whether water will evaporate faster outside.

This is just a part of our learning activities this week. We are busy learners in Grade 2!
