Grade 2 have had a creative week, preparing a dramatic performance of ‘The Great Kapok Tree’ for Assembly. Each student tried to move like the rainforest animal that was their character and created their own mask to wear.

Once students had coloured their mask in pastel, they estimated the circumference of their head for making a headband to attach the mask to. What an improvement in our estimation skills from the start of the year!

We also created posters to display some of the messages about the rainforest that we wanted to share with the rest of the school. We would love to think that people in the audience might have learned something about the rainforest and feel inspired like we do to protect it.

In preparing the play we focused on using the space well, remembering cues, audience awareness and learning to use the microphone so that the story would be clearly heard.

Although the rehearsals took a lot of concentration, we had a great time when it came to performing the play. We loved seeing our families there to watch.
