We have challenged ourselves this week to learn to solve subtraction problems by partitioning numbers. We used tens frames and abacuses to see how the numbers were being manipulated, before we began solving them without materials. By persevering and practising we were able to solve the problems independently and enjoyed writing problems for a buddy to solve. Some can almost solve them in their mind.

Another challenge this week was to write and publish a reflection on our learning in Semester 1. After so many interesting activities we had to be selective about what to include in our writing. Each person tried to produce a piece of writing that they felt proud of and achieved this.

Grade 5 invited us to be an audience at their poem sharing. It was inspiring to see how they stood and recited poems they had either written or found. Then some of our students stood up on the improvised stage and read the Winter Break poem they wrote last week.

Having lunch with other house team members on Wednesday was a happy and colourful occasion.

Our morning fitness, singing and movement time gets everyone smiling.

With everyone dressed in house colours, we couldn’t resist making a human bar graph to see how many Grade 2s were in each house.
