Spirit week brought with it a mixture of pony tales, indoor sun glasses, headbands and purple hair! Along with the bizarre attire, we actually did some math. Following a mixture of Algebra, Geometry, and a study of the Pythagorean Theorem, students have been learning how to form linear equations and how to graph these equations using Desmos Marbleslides (see photos). In this online activity, students create linear equations that carry marbles across line graphs to eliminate the stars found on the coordinate grid. Creativity has been the key to making the higher level marble slides to roll successfully through the stars. This is a great way of learning how the slope and locations of lines can be manipulated on a coordinate grid. See some Successes and a wacky group of G8 students below!
