The English A 11th graders got to explore how power is created through a drama activity last week. A table, four chairs and a water bottle were placed in the space. Each student had a chance to enter the space and give one chair more power than anything else. After maximum power was achieved, the students themselves took turns entering the space and claiming/taking power for themselves. Thank goodness the ceiling limited us; otherwise, the students would have reached the sky like Yertle the Turtle! The discussion afterwards was especially interesting, since it gave students a chance to think about language and power – the topic we are studying – in a more abstract way. Power is an interesting thing!
