Grade 4 had a special movie viewing this week. The feature film was WALL-E, a movie depicting the future of humanity starring a couple of robots seeking friendship. The premise of the film is that Earth is no longer inhabitable and humans are forced to live in a space station across the galaxy until proof is provided that Earth can sustain life once more.

Students were asked to watch the movie and take notice of all the instances of energy being used and its source. Students observed wind turbines, nuclear cooling towers, solar panels, biomass generators, petrol stations, as well as dozens of examples of energy being used via electricity. We discussed the significance of each of these uses and how humanity was being wasteful or conserving. We hope this will start the next phase of our unit which focuses on energy conservation.
