This week for Global Action Days, Grade 2 teamed up with our Grade 6 buddies and started building a greenhouse from plastic bottles. The Eco Club started collecting plastic bottles for the greenhouse last year and Global Action Days was the perfect opportunity to take action. We loved using our hands to build and create! We all cooperated really well with each other and used our thinking skills to solve problems that we encountered. The students also liked using their muscles to hammer in the nails. A huge thank you to Renee’s Mom and Lily’s Dad and Grandpa for helping us with the greenhouse. We love having extra helpers!
All (short) week long we learned about climate change causes and effects. We watched education videos and took a climate change quiz to test our knowledge. On Monday we went Meatless to fight climate change and we learned about the environmental damage caused by raising animals for human consumption. Students found it very interesting to learn that methane gas comes from cow farts and that methane gas is a very powerful greenhouse gas. All students agreed that eating less meat and participating in Meatless Monday is a great way to fight climate change and help the planet. It was a very educational week!
On Wednesday we celebrated Omani National Day! We had some Omani food and dressed up to show our commitment to Oman.
This week was also our 3 Way Conferences. We spent a lot of time carefully selecting work that we wanted to show and reflected on our work and progress. All students were very excited to share their learning with their parents. Thank you parents for all the positive feedback that you provided through your child’s conference.
Have a wonderful holiday!
