University preparation and counselling is a hot topic at the moment in the Secondary school. Following our successful Grade 10 to 12s visit to Edutrac conference in Muscat, we are evolving our systems for preparing our students for university life. Currently, ABIS does the following to prepare students for university college and admissions:
1) A comprehensive Careers survey taken by Grade 9 students and above to give them very detailed feedback on different university courses and their personal strengths. Here is an example of the type of report our students get: http://www.step1ltd.com/docs/interquest-snippets.pdf
2) A follow up counselling session from Mr Kearney to explain the report and discuss student outcomes.
3) 1-1 guidance on Diploma course options by Mr Thompson and colleagues.
3) A focus on essential university skills in our Advisory and special Diploma support classes, overseen by Miss Brewer and Mr Thompson.
4) Conversations and 1-1 meetings with students and families, mostly with Mr Thompson and Mr Kearney.
5) Annual visit to the Edutrac conference in Muscat: see link:

6) External guidance is offered by a university admissions and college counselling expert upon request of the school.
As we are growing, it seems to be the right time to host a university evening and invite Grade 9 to 12 students and parents. We are currently planning this and will inform you of the date shortly.
This week has been full of great basketball action with lots of games played both in the houses and against Sohar International School, who we intend to invite regularly to ABIS to play a host of sports. We also intend to compete more often with the Indian school and are currently working on a plan to compete in other sports locally. More to come. Well done to our students were played very well and very sportingly against SIS.
We hope to see you all at the parents evening on Wednesday.
