Week 27, short but sweet. This week we had the ABIS swimming gala and I was very impressed with all of our Grade 2 swimmers. My house, the Blue Dolphins, pulled ahead by a few points for the win, yeah Blue Dolphins! All students should feel very proud of their swimming, as they all did a great job.
This week we didn’t have a lot of UOI time but we did talk about the up coming Student Led Conferences and looked at a few more workplaces. In writing students worked on their free writing pieces that we started last week. In reading we are still getting into the routine of reading with our buddies everyday and using Raz-Kids more approrpiately. Today we had the chance to visit the Grade 5 Poetry Cafe and it was fantastic! We really enjoyed listening to the poems of the Grade 5 students and we even had a few grade 2 students share their Dr. Seuss poems that they learned way back in UOI 3! Well done Xavier, Dionisio , Mahwish, and Nova for being risk-takers and for having such a great memory!
Raz-Kids – Since the start of the year we have been having some problems with students going into each others Raz-kids accounts and using up their bonus Stars to build robots and rockets. I gave all the students a password to prevent this from happening again, but unfortunatley this has not stopped this from happening and students are still hacking into each other’s Raz-kids accounts and using their stars. I’ve talked to the students about being honest and having integrity and how wrong it is to use someone else’s rewards, yet this is still happening. Please check in with your child when they are reading on Raz-kids to see if they are signed into their accounts and talk with them about how wrong hacking into someone else’s account is.
Homework
We are having a Spring Break Raz-kids Reading Race! Students are encouraged to read for 20 minutes a day at their assigned level on Raz-Kids. Reading Awards will be given to the students with the most books read, the highest number of correct quizes, and the most time spent reading. Happy Reading!
Have a lovely spring break.
