Hopefully the children have managed to share with you some of the activities we have been involved in this week. As part of our writing programme we have been looking at Instructional writing/Infromation texts. Both of these lend themselves nicely to baking and following recipes. We have had great fun cooking and sampling what we have made. Recipes also mean we need to learn how to measure accurately using different forms of measurement eg: millilitres, grams, cups, teaspoons. This fits into our math programme where we are also learning about handling data and making differen types of graphs.

Edit

As part of our Unit of Inquiry we worked in groups to come up with advantages and disadvantages of being an immigrant. We did this using a technique called a Round Robin. The children stay in the same groups and we pass the piece of paper around adding to the comments on the lists. It’s a great way to collect information and for children to build on other ideas and consolidate their own.

After reading the story of Pocohontas we created Venn Diagrams to compare the lifestyle Pocohontas had before she left America and once she arrived in England.

For Math we have been learning about Statistics. This has involved collecting data, analysing the information and then presenting it in a variety of ways. We have looked at pie graphs, plot graphs, bar graphs, strip graphs and pictographs.
