Happy New Year! I trust you all had a restful break and are happy that school has started again. We’ve had 2 new students join our Grade 2 family, Amal Aykour and Elisa Rosenboom. Both girls are from Holland and we are very excited to have them join our class. If you see either of these girls and their parents around school, please help us welcome them to our ABIS family by introducing yourself.

This week we spent the first few days reviewing our classroom rules and procedures, and reviewing what we’ve been learning in our current Unit of Inquiry into Drama. The students have been given their drama groups and have started organizing their ideas and practicing for their plays. The students will be making their plays by going through the steps of a creative process that we designed together as a class. Feedback is a big part of our creative process and the students will have a chance to perform their plays and get feedback many times in order to improve and perfect their plays.

In Math, the students worked hard on figuring out the perimeter of different shapes and we took on some challenging addition with regrouping questions. I suggest reviewing addition with regrouping at home with your child as regrouping is often a tough concept for students to grasp.

In Language, the students wrote about what they did over the holidays and drew some pictures of the highlights of their break. We also continued reading in our reading groups and each student got a new word sort for Word Study practice.

Have a great weekend!

Ms. Jackie
