We have dived head first into our new Unit of Inquiry this week and we are having lots of fun! Our first line of inquiry is “How performers communicate their ideas and emotions through drama.” We have been practicing using our facial expressions, body movements and voice to express our emotions through different role plays. The students will need to write and perform a short play in the outdoor theatre for their Summative Assessment. Because the stage space is such an important element in Drama, students will be conducting a Math Investigation into Measurement and Geometry so that they can measure the area and perimeter of the outdoor stage in order to draw a stage map to assist them in their set design and prop placement for their play.

This week we reviewed our knowledge about shapes and practiced our cooperation skills by working in teams to make shapes with our bodies. It was a fun activity and we learned how to work together as a team, use quick thinking skills and learned how to bend our body to make straight edges! Together we made 6 sided shapes, 8 sided shapes, rectangles, triangles and even tried to make a 12 sided shape!

Our new author study is DR. SEUSS! We just love his rhyming books that are full of exciting verses. We have already been memorizing short verses to practice our facial expressions, voice and dramatic movements. We will also be writing some of our own rhyming poems and verses!

Have a lovely weekend!
