It was a real treat to see our students up there and performing at the Secondary Winter Concert. It was a visible and perfect example of our student mission: “challenge yourself, involve yourself and be your best”. It was also lovely to have a great audience and supportive turn out for the event, which shows that hosting short and varied performance events works really well. As teachers, we were very proud of our students, but I can imagine that this in no way matches how parents feel when they see their child up there overcoming their fears and delivering a great performance. I hope you filled up your camera memory with images and videos to share with family and friends!

The Ukrainiacs play preview was wonderful and suggests that the play, held next Wednesday evening (7pm start) and Thursday afternoon (1:20pm start), is going to be a great fun! The ten minute ‘slice’ that we witnessed was funny, energetic and colourful. Please come to one of these entertaining events and show your support.

This week we marked the first round of personal projects by grade 7 and 8. We piloted the programme last year to see how this would work and it has generally been very successful.  Understandably, the students really enjoy having the rare freedom to create their own product and develop a new skill or area of interest. We will exhibit all the projects at the end of the year and will also add them to our semester reports so that you can see how they are doing. They have two more projects to complete before June.

We have been very busy planning our Grade 7,8 and 9 Oman Week trips (February 8-12)  and feel that they will be better than ever. More details to follow shortly.

Have an enjoyable weekend!

This week’s featured image is new Grade 7 student Sara Barendregt’s first project – she designed a cafe, menu and even made an apron!
