Grade 11 physics students are investigating Newton’s three laws of motion. They did an experiment to analyse the second law – F=ma. When the astronauts on the Apollo 15 flight went to the moon in 1971, they conducted an experiment to prove that objects falling under gravity accelerate at the same rate. This is difficult to see on earth usually, because air resistance has a great effect. They used a falcon feather and a hammer. Recently Professor Brian Cox went to the world’s largest vacuum chamber and performed a similar experiment using a bowling ball and some feathers.
It is a very nice demonstration of Newton’s third law. Check it out at http://youtu.be/E43-CfukEgs
