Book Week Announcements
Book Week starts on Sunday 21st September, with all kinds of activities going on around the school to promote the love of reading. Book Week events include mystery readers in the MPA from 8.20-8.40, dedicated Drop Everything And Read times each day, and our Book Character Parade on Thursday 25th September at 8:45. Additional activities include mother-tongue readers, quizzes for each grade level, designing bookmarks and dust jackets, books and bikkies club and a ‘Read in Unusual Places Photo’ competition. Winning teams from the quizzes will be allowed to select a book of their choice from the Scholastic Book Club order form. House points can also be won. Winners names will be announced at assembly on Thursday 2nd October, 12.20.
I would like to draw your attention to one special event, which will run during Book Week, our House Reading Challenge. Students will be coming home with a special reading log, which will track how many pages they have read. Every page that a student reads earns him or her a point. The house that collects the most points will be declared our House Reading Challenge Champions. This is our first house event of the year.
Students may begin collecting points on Thursday 18th September, and need to hand in their reading logs to their teachers/advisors by Thursday, 25th September. Every page that a student reads counts as a point. Since we are trying to encourage students to read for pleasure, comic books, picture books, novels, or non fiction books in any language are all counted equally. Reading aloud to your child, is one of the best ways to develop their love of reading, so those pages count as well.
We will announce the winning house at assembly on Thursday 2nd October, 12:20.
