Swimming Gala was the highlight of the week for me and it was great to see the Secondary students battling it out in some great races in the pool. There were many stories of real progress, representing lots of training and effort by students in the early mornings, as well as in their PE classes. It is very clear that, despite our relatively low numbers, swimming is an area that the ABIS students can really compete and maintain a healthy sense of competition. Well done to Mr. Carberry for organising yet another great event.

Today, you will have received a letter in regard to the new teachers joining us next year. I would like to apologise to Jacqueline Graves, our fabulous Science teacher, for accidentally leaving her off the list of teachers who will be returning here next year. Of course she will be here, working with our new and additional science teacher, Jorge Lopez. I apologise for any alarm this error may have caused and hope that she won’t put me in detention on Sunday when she finds out!

Secondary students recently completed a survey in regard to their sleeping patterns which revealed some alarming results: if what they say is accurate, 50 % of our students don’t get enough sleep. The recommended figure for a teenager is between 8.5 and 9.25 hours per night. http://sleepfoundation.org/sleep-topics/teens-and-sleep The impact of not sleeping enough means longterm health damage and a poor performance in school. Mr Kearney will share more information on this in a future post. Please contact us if you’d like more information on this topic.

Grade 10 started their first IGCSE exam (Art) today and are currently sat in the exam room (hopefully) creating a masterpiece. They will do all their other exams in May so we wish them the best of luck. We have faith in them and their abilities.
