As many of you will know we had two regional power cuts last week meaning that some of my colleagues and I were unable to post our weekly update on school events and developments so we apologise if the Secondary newsletter was a bit ‘lighter’ and thinner’ than usual. One of our important goals is to increase the quality and depth of communication between school and home and to get parents involved in school life as much as possible. To this end we hope that all of you can attend the 3 Way Conference (child/parent/teacher) on Monday December 2nd. This is an opportunity to discuss how well your children have settled into the school year, as well as how they can improve and how we can work together to support them. We value having this opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and look forward to seeing you there. We hope to send the reports home on November 26, which is two days earlier than planned due to to the announcement of the National Day celebrations on November 27 and 28. These reports will be the basis of the 3 Way Conference.
Much discussion within the school this week has been over the damage and destruction caused by Typhoon Haiyan. We we have three Filipino families represented within the Secondary school alone so we are particularly concerned about their family and friends’ well-being. Our thoughts and condolences are very much with them.
In my next few posts I will be sharing some interesting evidence-based-research with you on what we can do together to help improve student achievement and welcome any parents who would like to come in and discuss the findings of the research.
