I had the good fortune to make two trips out to interesting events this week. The first was to TAISM for the swimming ‘relay’ gala. The second trip was the Eco Club visit to Sohar University. The first trip was exciting and rewarding and the second was educational and fascinating.

For those who were unable to make the trip to TAISM, we were pitted against 5 other much larger Muscat schools, some of which have semi professional coaching set ups. This was quite intimidating at first for our students as they observed many much ‘bigger’ competitors walking around in designer swimsuits, goggles and caps followed by coaches with clipboards and stop watches. I admit to being a little bit worried myself however I should have had more confidence as once again our student rose to the occasion by giving gutsy and gritty performances. In many races we were up there with the competition and we even managed to get a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Not bad going given our relatively small number of students and a testament to the hard work these students have put in during early morning swimming sessions. Thank you to Mr “Swim Coach” Carberry for making it all happen.

The trip to Sohar University for our Eco Club students was very educational and engaging. Students received a mini tour of the campus, a visit to a laboratory, as well as a visit to an experiment on the roof. The purpose of the trip was to educate students on some environmental aspects in relation to air quality but also to discuss how we as humans can be more protective of the environment. We have thanked the university for their invitation and warm hospitality. We hope that we will build stronger connection with them in the future as we share many goals in common.

We look forward to seeing you at our Maths Day exhibition and quiz on Monday or Tuesday (depending upon the holiday) evening between 5:30 pm and 7pm.

Have an enjoyable weekend!
