There was no shortage of enthusiasm and creativity last Thursday as the children showed up dressed as book characters. As a parent I fully realize the amount of time, effort and thought that goes into getting costumes ready especially in a locale such as ours with limited access to stores that sell them. What is less obviously evident with an event such as book week is the long term interest that it generates in books and reading. Over the years I have come across children pick up the habit thanks to a book that was read to them, discussed or a character brought to life during book week.
