A fabulous book character parade concluded this week’s events. It was great fun to witness the imagination and creativity that has gone into making the variety of costumes on show. One can clearly see that students and teachers have been supporting the local tailors of Sohar as well as planning well ahead of the event. Next year we challenge parents to play a bigger part and join us by getting dressed up. Start planning now though if you want to win the prize!

An imminent development in the Secondary School is ‘Personal Projects’, which will be starting immediately after the break for Grade 7 and 8. Two lessons a week will be dedicated to supporting students and helping them to develop the planning skills to manage a project from start to end. Teachers will be appointed to guide and supervise the students who will have the opportunity to choose their own project. Unlike most projects they do in school this is one that they can proudly say is there own. I have attached a Slideshare from another international school to give you an idea of the tremendous range and freedom the students will be given.

Projects may vary from designing and making something to a traditional piece of research. Teachers have been considering the projects for some time and we now feel ready to launch them.

In line with our mission statement, we feel that project skills are solid preparation for the future. As many of you are projects leaders yourselves you will know that they play a central role in many careers. They are an equally important element of the IB Diploma and most university programmes – in various forms – so we feel that is important to invest some time on them.

We will celebrate and share these projects with you in the form of an exhibition at the end of the year.

Have a fun weekend and please don’t forget that our Photo Day is this Monday (7th October)!
