Parents often ask how they can help their children with math. There are a number of ways we as parents can do so. The most obvious one is familiarizing ourselves with the curriculum, and objectives (in other words becoming familiar with what your child is learning in class) and working with them to better their understanding). The New Zealand math website has an excellent resource available at http://www.nzmaths.co.nz/families

A less obvious yet equally if not more important way of helping your child is by playing mathematical board games with them. Some of the ones that spring to mind are monopoly, snakes and ladders, ludo and yes even scrabble (someone has to tally the scores don’t they?).
