We are writing our reflections for our final report card. so, it seems fitting that we focus on endings in our writing. Our question was….what makes a good ending?

We found out by looking at the endings of different books.

We sorted out our endings and noticed a few patterns. Great endings can summarize the story, plan or hope for the future, state the lesson or message of the story or hint there is more to come! Some endings did not fit this pattern, maybe if we had time to find more endings, we would be able to find a pattern for them!

One thing we did notice that NONE of the endings just said “the end”. The reader should just know it’s the end….if you have to tell them, then your ending is not good and needs revising.

Maybe at home, we should think about how the author ends the stories we read. Does it fit into our patterns? Is it a good ending? How do we know?
