The time for the Student Led Conferences is fast approaching. This year students’ portfolios will be web-based and students have been working hard developing their websites and portfolios. They are very excited about sharing their learning journeys electronically.
What is a Student Led Conference?
For those who are new to the ABIS community, a Student Led Conference enables students to take the lead in discussing their own learning and goals. Teachers are present in the room but are not part of the discussion. If parents wish to meet with teachers, they are advised to make a separate appointment through the office. Teachers may also request a separate meeting with parents. Student led conferences can be conducted with more than one family in the room and generally have an allotted time of thirty minutes.
Mid semester reports are also due later this month, with a significant difference to previous years. This second mid semester report will ONLY be sent home to parents if the following criteria apply:
·Your child is new to the school
·Your child has had some ongoing support structures in place and regular meetings are required
·Your child has shown a marked change – either positive or negative – in their academic progress.
Children outside these criteria will not have a report during mid semester as the Student Led Conferences are in-depth and extensive.
How to sign up for a Student Led Conference:
Fill out the form that you will receive and send it to school as soon as possible. Times will be assigned with siblings in mind AND on a “first come first served” basis. Please indicate if your child has siblings and the grade(s) in which they are.
