As you are aware, there was a small fire in the Secondary Learning Centre during the early hours of Wednesday morning, which has caused us to temporarily close the Secondary School whilst we assess the damage and decide the best way to continue teaching and learning. It has been established by experts that the fire was caused by a malfunctioning AC unit, which has caused significant smoke and carbon soot damage. The alarm system went off and our trusty custodians investigated and made sure that the fire was extinguished. Although no one was harmed, we sent a custodian to hospital in case of smoke inhalation damage.

We have taken all the necessary steps to inform and work with the authorities (fire, police and insurance services, etc) and will restore the SLS in the quickest time possible. In the meantime we have found a creative and workable solution that will enable the Secondary School to function with the same timetable and conditions as normal so that learning is not interrupted. The Secondary School will be open and continue as normal on Saturday so please do not make any alternative plans for students.

We will reschedule the Art Day, which was due to happen on Monday (15 April), so that Secondary students can settle back into a routine. Standby for an announcement on when we will return to the Secondary building itself but you can assume that it will be several weeks and will not occur until we are satisfied that any health and safety concerns have been addressed. Please contact the Secondary Team Leader, Leo Thompson, if you have questions in regard to the Secondary School and its operations.

Thank you for your support and understanding.
