Joseph Fourier was a French mathematician and physicist born on March 21st 1768. Not only was Fourier a mathematician that had several applications of mathematics named after him, he has also been credited with the discovery of the greenhouse effect in the 1820’s! In addition to his work on mathematics and physics, Fourier also managed to accompany Napoleon Bonaparte on his Egyptian expedition in 1798, being made the Governor of Lower Egypt and subsequently in 1801 was made the Governor of the French province of Grenoble.
