In our unit on mapping, we have been talking about scale and coordinate grids. We thought it was not fair that the world doesn’t have coordinate grid lines drawn on it for us to see. It would make finding things and figuring out scale so much easier!
We wanted to draw lines on the classroom floor but Ms. Fitch didn’t want to draw on the floor. So, we thought tape would work. Ms. Fitch thought about it and let us test our idea on the carpet. Once we showed we could do it, we did the floor! It really made us practice cooperation, keeping a line straight. We learned that a metre stick can be used for two things, to measure things and to keep things straight.
Ms. Fitch thinks this is going to set us up for a lot of measurement learning so these lines will be here for a while!
