Grade four have been hard at work in the last week.  Here are some of the things they have been working on:

Narratives – as part of the Writer’s Workshop, Grade four have been developing Narratives.  They have worked on extending character profiles and setting descriptions as part of the opening of a Narrative.  A really cool opening sentence is a great idea.  Students are presently working on the problem / resolution part which is a trademark of a Narrative.

Timestables Practice – as part of the NZ Maths Number Knowledge segment, the students have been working on recollecting and using their times tables in activities that are both engaging and challenging.  For example they have had to play a version of the game “24.”  Get them to play with you at home!  All you need is a deck of cards and an enthusiastic mind.

Heroes – we have started our Heroes Unit!  The students have worked on their understanding of what a hero is and some different kinds of heroes in real life and fiction.   They had to give a presentation on their understandings just this week.  Over the next few weeks, you will see some more information coming home about heroes.

The included pictures will show you some of the above information.  Enjoy!
