Thank you to everyone who was able to come to the Entrepreneurial Bazaar (post coming soon). It was a huge success that I know the children will not soon forget. Now that this Unit of Inquiry on economics is coming to a close, we’re starting to think about and plan for the next unit beginning after the Eid break. It will run approximately until the winter holidays.

Our next unit is about sharing the planet and the central idea is: Earth has a finite amount of fresh water that all living things need to stay alive and grow. We plan to examine the water cycle, availability and management of water, and water conservation. I’d really love to have the kids go on a field trip towards the end of the unit and I have a few ideas that I think would be really fun and informational.

  • Water desalination plant
  • Waste water and water treatment facility
  • Local water management system (i.e. filaj system, natural spring, authentic well, or other way local Omani people have gotten and managed water historically).

All of these ideas, however, would require having a contact within a local facility. I am asking if anyone (parents, friends, co-workers, etc.) knows someone that would be willing to host the class (16 children aged 8-9 and 2-3 adult chaperones) on this type of event. As anywhere, it’s all about who you know! I will continue to ask locally, but have not had much luck so far. If you have other ideas that would fit well within this unit, please let me know. Send me an email or stop by the class! Thank you for your cooperation and I look forward to hearing from you.
