In Writer’s Workshop Grade 3 is learning the art of descriptive writing. Students analyzed the writer’s craft of some of their favorite authors to find out what good authors do to make their writing more interesting. Each student picked their favorite descriptive sentence and explained how and why it was an example of nice writing.
Grade 3 discovered that authors often use their five senses to make their descriptions more interesting. Students explored their senses and described some of their favorite, and least favorite, tastes and smells. We also explored our sense of sight, touch and sound by experiencing some things around the school. Grade 3 went on a “sound hunt” to find interesting sounds around the school. We listened carefully to all the noises in the school and tried to describe each one in an interesting and unique way.
Come by at the end of this week and see how we used the five sense to improve our descriptive writing. Our paragraphs will be bound in a class book available in our classroom library.
