Hello parents
We have had a majorly busy week this week! Grade 4 students were asked to summarise the events that were important to them over the last few days. Here are their thoughts:
My best memories of Seussical
By Claire
My good memories are, when I saw my costume for the first time. When I found out I was a Bird Girl, I was upset because I thought I wouldn’t be doing very much, but then when I read the original copy, I saw I was doing a lot of singing. My favourite memory is when the light popped during a rehearsal and it was raining glass.
In the Seussical, we learned these Learner Profile Attributes: Risk Takers, when we learned new songs that we never heard of before, Communicators, when we were talking about the Seussical, Caring, when we thought about others and didn’t talk when we weren’t supposed to talk, and Knowledgeable – we were Knowledgeable when we had to remember our lines.
The Musical
by Trina
The best memories of the musical is the first time I had a lot of lines to say. In the beginning I was so nervous but when I practiced and practiced then suddenly I knew all my lines. The funny things that happened were when the show was starting, sometimes the music got loud and the microphone fell down. We had a great time in the Seussical with Ms. Saunders and Mrs. Akerstrom. Remember, “A person’s a person no matter how small.”
My Passion Project
By Spencer
This morning I did my Passion Project on Energy. This is how I presented it. First I had an introduction because we are only on the unit “Exploration.” Then I had a quiz. There were two rows of six. I had to read the quiz and the people at the front had to answer the question. The person who answered it correctly scored a point for their team. When my cards were finished I would see who had more points would win and get to do the experiment which was basically a self made battery. Then everyone clapped and gave me a comment. Then I went to class and started typing about my Passion Project.
Swimming at TAISM
By Abhishek
When we reached there, I saw Courtney, Alla and Sachin coming out saying they had a huge movie theatre, a big football field, a long basketball court and three swimming pools. One was for small children. It was just 0.15 metres deeps. The second one was only 1.95 metres deep and 25 metres long. The third was for the big kids. It was 50 metres long and 2 and 1/2 metres deep. There were 2 pages of events in the competition. I had more than five races. I was in a relay. I had to do butterfly first, then 25 metres of freestyle, and I wasted all my energy with it and I raced the 10 year old kids and came second place. At all the other races I was 3rd or 2nd.
Tidy Numbers
By Tahlyn
This week we have been learning about Tidy Numbers. Tidy numbers are numbers in a number sentence that are rounded to the closest 1, 10 or 100. For example, 125+384, you round 124 to 100 and add 24 to 384 which makes it easier to do instead of adding 124 and 384.
Seussical
By Newton
It was the day of the Seussical. When we were waiting, Ms Marie signaled us and when the music started, Marie the Cat in the Hat had a hat and had to bring it to the box. Trina was Jojo and started speaking. We sang “Oh the Things you can Think,” “Chasing the Who’s,” “Solla Sollew,” “The Who’s Return,” “Oh the Things you can Think Finale,” and “Green Eggs and Ham.” It was fun! SEUSS!!!!
Persuasive Texts
By Oleg and Michael
A persuasive text is an argument about your opinion or your point of view. It is about real live facts.
When you write a persuasive text, you start with a point of view. Then you write three or more paragraphs of reasons, but you need to have evidence. Then we have a conclusion. It’s like a summary. You can include an extra reason to give people something to think about.
We wrote a persuasive text on exploration. We had to choose if exploration was good or not. But remember, these are opinions.
The Musical
By Jade
Last night it was the Seussical. We all had so much fun. I was really scared because I thought something would go wrong, but nothing did so I got happy again. It was so much fun when we were changing and putting our makeup on. My mum and dad were so proud of me and I was too. My, my mum and my little brother went with Tamika’s mum because my dad came a bit late, but he came on time. When I got home I was really tired.
What is a Tidy Number?
By Prishanthi
A tidy number means rounding a number to the nearest whole or a number with a five or a zero at the end, for example 50, 100, 85. Tidy numbers can be added and subtracted. When you add, you have to add on one side and minus on the other. When you subtract you either plus on both or minus on both, you have to use your mind for subtraction a little to choose plus or minus. Our class has been learning about it and the whole class loves it, they know the concept. It is real fun and easy to do.
Seussical
By Deema
At 5.30 we started dressing up and we got make up. And at 6.30 we started the Seussical. I like in the end of the Seussical the songs “Oh the Things you can Think” and “Green Eggs and Ham” and “Here on Who.” Everybody did a good job and also I liked the costume. I was happy at the end because I did a good job.
My Passion Project
By Sanna
Today I did my Passion Project. My Passion Project was about Exploration. I chose to explore the topic skiing because this is something I am passionate about. First I talked about what I was going to do then I showed all a movie I had made.
After my Passion Project, the other students gave me some questions and comments. They said they really liked it because they didn’t know so much about skiing. I think I did really well.
The Swimming at TAISM
By Alla
When it reached 12.15 on Monday the 10th of December, we went to TAISM. Courtney and I were the first ones to reach TAISM. Before Abhishek came we saw there the theatre. Afterwards, Abhishek came. When everyone reached, we had a little rest and then we started the gala. The first race was me and Tamika. Tamika came second and I came third because one of the TAISM girls came first. The girl that came first was really fast and actually most of the TAISM students are fast at swimming. When we finished the gala, we went for dinner at Muscat City Centre. When we reached Muscat City Centre, I saw all the students in my school that came for the gala. Once everyone was finished at dinner, we went back home. I reached home at 11.00pm. It was fun at TAISM!
