Dear Families

Grade Four students will be commencing their first “Passion Project” of the year.  A Passion Project is a research opportunity for children to take their interests in the Units of Inquiry, a little further than investigated in the class.  This project aims to develop Research, Social, Communication, Thinking and Self Management Skills over the course of the school year.

The students will be given several options for presentation from which they can choose one that they prefer.  This will allow them to demonstrate their strengths, and, over the course of the year, to try more than one way to present knowledge and understanding.

This first Passion Project will have significant periods of time devoted to it in the classroom as well as some time during homework time.  Once the first Passion Project is completed, the students will be expected to choose TWO other Units of Inquiry in the year for Passion Projects.  They are encouraged to look at the Units of Inquiry and consider which two they would like to use for their Passion Projects.  For these individual projects, children will be asked to do them largely at home, although time will be allocated in the class to support children wherever needed.

The first Passion Project due date is the week of October 20.  During that week, children will be invited to present to the class and any interested parents this first Passion Project.  Stay tuned for times and details.
