Hello Parents! I wanted to keep you updated on the routines and procedures that we have established.
Reading Workshop:
Students have been assigned groups and our Reading Workshop Lessons take place during the morning lessons.
I have the opportunity to go around to each group and listen to each child read individually.
Math:
ABIS has adopted the New Zealand Mathematics curriculum. More information will be given on Parent Night. The first unit of study is Number and the first strand we have started is Place Value.
Word Study:
Students have received their first list and have done activities in class to group the words and find their meanings.
We have started our first Word Study List 1 of Long ‘a’ and Short ‘a’ words. The list also includes high frequency words, and vocabulary words related to our Unit Of Inquiry-Dollars and Sense.
Unit of Inquiry: Dollars and Sense.
Our students are really enjoying this economic unit. They have all applied for classroom jobs and received their positions last week. We have designed a currency for the class and named it ‘ Batinah Dollars’. The currency comes in denominations of 1, 5, 10, and 20. We have used Omani animals as the symbols on each note. Students will receive their first salary on Wednesday, and they will budget their income and expenses. We are very excited!
Writers Workshop:
We have started the Lucy Calkins Writers Workshop and our first unit for writing for September is Narrative Writing.
I am looking forward to seeing all of you on Tuesday evening.
Jose
