What was up with the Old UOI’s?
We had two science UOI’s before our Government UOI
Energy
Our old UOI was Energy. In the Energy unit, we had to learn about energy and its uses. We even learned how energy was changed from potential to kinetic. One of our favourite facts is that energy can come from coal, and that coal took millions of years to make.
“My favourite thing was learning about electricity” said one of our sources of information.
“Mine was the experiments,” said another. We did lots of experiments on energy. A favourite was the cola and mentos experiment. Even Mr. Tomalin, our wonderful principal, got involved.

Mixtures and Solutions
In this unit we learn about how things can mix and separate together. Shamma, Abdul and Marie did Passion Projects on mixtures and solutions. Shamma did a silent movie, Abdul did a presentation and Marie did an experiment. The experiment took two days and it was about leaf chromatography, where you separate the ink from the leaf. We also learned that some things can’t mix like water and oil, but if some dishwashing liquid is added, water and oil can mix.
