We are exploring units on Invention, Research Skills and reading the novel Hugo Cabret, which is historical fiction based on an Invention.
Inventions, students are currently working on; characteristics of an inventor, brainstorming invention vocabulary and preparing an inventors journal. Students have been thoroughly engaged by bringing pictures and items from home.
Research Skills, Students are learning how to use our school library. They are drawing maps, making catalogue cards, using reference books and learning the use of a thesaurus dictionary.
Hugo Cabret: written by Brian Selznick, Students have started a display area with information about the author’s life, a bibliography and a photo journal.
These new units have stirred up much excitement in class. Keeping checking the broadcaster for the students up and coming work on their own inventions.
