Dear Primary Families,
We ended the week with our Grade 3 and Grade 4 Assembly, and it was lovely to see students sharing their learning from their current Units of Inquiry.
Our Grade 3 students shared their learning about body systems as part of their Who We Are unit. This brought back fond memories of teaching a similar unit during my time in Beijing, particularly how much my students enjoyed exploring the digestive system! It is a wonderful example of the transdisciplinary nature of the PYP, bringing together science, mathematics, language, and Personal, Social and Physical Education (PSPE).
Our Grade 4 students also did a great job sharing their learning about explorers as part of their Where We Are in Place and Time unit.
Congratulations to all our students for being risk-takers and confidently sharing their learning with the Primary community. Thank you also to our Grade 3 and Grade 4 teaching teams for the time and effort that went into preparing the assembly.
Settling In and Growing Together
I have continued to enjoy visiting classrooms this week, and one thing that has become increasingly noticeable is just how well students have settled into their class routines and expectations.
A colleague recently commented on how calm and settled one of our grade-level learning areas felt, and how much more mature the students seemed compared with last year. It was a lovely observation and one that reflects something we see across Primary as students grow and develop.
As children move through the grade levels, we see them becoming increasingly independent, responsible, and confident in their learning. The IB Learner Profile attributes play an important role in helping to guide this development, encouraging students to become caring, principled, reflective, and open-minded members of our school community.
It is rewarding to see this growth taking place, sometimes in small ways that are easy to overlook during the busy school day.
Looking Ahead to the October Break
Next week marks our final week before the October break, and by the end of Thursday, we will have completed eight teaching weeks of the new school year. It hardly seems possible that we are already approaching our first break!
We look forward to finishing this first part of the year with our Grade 1 and Grade 2 Assembly next Thursday.
As always, thank you for your continued support. Wishing you and your families a wonderful weekend.
Best regards,
Matthew
Primary Principal
