This week in Grade 3, students continued deepening their understanding of our Who We Are unit of inquiry. Students shared their learning through presentations explaining how two body systems work together. This gave them the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of the connections within the human body while also developing their communication and collaboration skills.
We were also very happy to welcome Ziyan’s mom, Dr. Neha, who spoke with us about the musculoskeletal system. Students learned more about how our muscles, bones, and joints work together to help our bodies move and function. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to connect their classroom learning with knowledge and experiences from an expert in our community.
As we continued exploring the concept of cause and effect, students participated in a Four Corners activity connected to our Who We Are inquiry. Students considered different everyday choices and discussed the short-term and long-term effects these choices can have on our bodies. They reflected on how choices related to nutrition, exercise, sleep, hydration, and other healthy habits can support our body systems, while other choices may have negative effects over time.
In Mathematics, we continued strengthening our understanding of rounding to the nearest hundred. Students extended their learning by applying their rounding strategies to four-digit and larger numbers, using their understanding of place value to explain their thinking.
It was a fantastic week of making connections, sharing our learning, and thinking more deeply about the responsibility we have for taking care of our bodies.
