It has been another busy and thoughtful week in Grade 5!
In our Unit of Inquiry, students explored the idea that the behaviour we see on the outside is only one small part of what a person may be experiencing. Through our iceberg challenge, they considered the thoughts, feelings and needs that may be hidden beneath different behaviours, before comparing their ideas with others. We also began making connections between thoughts, feelings and behaviours. It has been great to see students showing openness and using their thinking skills to consider how we can better understand and support others.
In Maths, we have continued developing our understanding of place value by reading, representing and interpreting larger numbers. In Writing, we have focused on planning our personal narratives and thinking about how we can add more detail to our characters, settings and events.

A reminder that, as shared on Seesaw earlier this week, as part of a school-wide change, student iPads will now remain at school rather than being taken home. They will be securely stored at school each day. If you have not already done so, please also send your child’s iPad charger into school so that we can keep devices charged and ready for learning.
Next week, we will continue our Unit of Inquiry by trying out different mindful and self-regulation strategies and evaluating how useful they are for us. In Maths, we will explore number lines and rounding, while in Writing we will begin drafting our stories and looking at how to create strong and engaging beginnings.
We’re looking forward to another great week of learning!
Kind regards,
Mr. G and Miss Megan
