Dear Primary Families,
This week we recognise Teachers’ Day, which fell on Tuesday, 24th February.
Teachers can have a lasting impact on the lives of young people. When I think back to my own time in school, I often remember Mr. Allison, who taught me in Grade 5. He was a young, newly qualified teacher at the time, and his energy and enthusiasm left a strong impression on me. Lessons were engaging and enjoyable, and he connected with us beyond the textbook. He was also a passionate football and cricket fan, much like I was, and that shared interest made school feel personal and relatable.
Many years later, when I began my own teaching career, I had the opportunity to work alongside him as he had become my principal. It was a full circle moment and one that reinforced the influence teachers can have. He is now retired and, when we last connected, he was travelling around Spain in his camper van. It seems he remains a role model for me, and I hope that when I retire in many years’ time, I will still be exploring and discovering new places as well.
Here at ABIS, we are fortunate to have a dedicated and caring team of teachers and educators who work hard each day to support our students. They are role models, mentors, and guides. On Teachers’ Day, we celebrate not only our own staff, but all educators who help shape young people into confident, thoughtful, and lifelong learners.
Thank you for your continued support of our teachers and our school community.
Wishing you all an enjoyable long weekend.
Best regards,
Matthew
