Dear Robloxian parents,

This week we have continued exploring our new Unit of Inquiry, How We Express Ourselves, and the Robloxians have been doing a wonderful job. We have been looking at the many different ways we can express ourselves through performances such as dance, music, puppetry, theatre, poetry, drawing, and painting.

We discussed what can inspire our creativity and how our imagination helps us express our feelings and ideas in so many different ways. Some of our Robloxians play instruments, while others love singing, dancing, or acting, and it has been so special to hear about their experiences. We also began unpacking our central idea and lines of inquiry, with a big focus on understanding the creative process and how ideas can grow into something we can share with others.

On Seesaw, I have posted a home learning activity (a puppet show) that your child can complete independently. We would love to see how your Robloxian expresses their imagination and creativity through the use of their toys.

In Literacy, we met in small reading groups and I have continued with reading assessments. We also looked at plural words, learning when we add -s and when we use -es for exceptions.

In reading groups, we focused on characters and practised describing characters using details from the text. This week we also completed a writing assessment based on a recount of a recent experience. Students planned their recount using when, who, where, and what, and then organised their writing using time connectives such as first, then, next, and finally. This is always a challenge as students work hard to write in complete sentences, use punctuation, spell correctly, and add descriptions to their writing, but the improvement in their writing has improved a lot, which always is a great celebration.

In Maths, we revisited place value as we begin working with three-digit numbers, especially for students who were ready for an extra challenge. We also explored different subtraction strategies and how addition and subtraction are connected. Students have been learning how to check their work and explain their thinking, not only finding an answer but showing how they got to that answer. They have represented their strategies using base-ten blocks and number lines. We have also been looking a lot at multi-step word problems and the Robloxians are improving at explaining their thinking and reasoning, which is definitely a celebration.

Next week will be a very busy and exciting week as we celebrate Oman Week. Students will enjoy crafts, henna, camel experiences, and we also have our field trip coming up to Sohar Fort and the old souq on Sunday.

Please enjoy the photos shared here.

Best,

Ms Cami
