Dear Primary Families,
This week marked an important milestone for ABIS as we welcomed the IB Evaluation team to our school from Monday to Wednesday. The purpose of the visit was to support us as we work with the IB Programme Standards and Practices, which aim to equip students with the skills, understanding, and dispositions needed to engage thoughtfully with the world and take responsible action for the future.
In the lead-up to the visit, the school shared extensive documentation, including planning and policy materials, and completed a thorough self-study reflecting honestly on our practice. During the visit itself, the evaluation team spent time meeting with students, teachers, parents, school leadership, and governors. This process allowed us to reflect carefully on where we are as a school and to clarify priorities for future development.
The experience has been tremendously positive. We will receive the full written report in the coming weeks, and the verbal feedback shared at the end of the visit was extremely encouraging. The team’s observations and identified areas for development aligned closely with our own goals and direction, and they spoke very highly of the learning, relationships, and sense of community they experienced during their time with us. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making the visit such a success.
Looking Ahead – Oman Week
Next week promises to be a very special one as we celebrate Oman Week. Students will take part in a range of trips and experiences, including Grade 5 visiting Muscat, Grade 4 travelling to Mussanah, trips to Sohar Fort, the souq, and the beach, as well as on-campus activities such as performances from a visiting local school and demonstrations of traditional Omani crafts. And yes, camels will be visiting the school on Tuesday, which I am very much looking forward to!
The week will conclude with a whole-school assembly for students on Thursday, followed by our International Food Evening from 4:30 pm. This is always a highlight of the year, and I would like to sincerely thank the parents who have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to prepare for this wonderful community event.
This has been a successful week for ABIS as we continue our journey, and next week promises to be just as memorable.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
Best regards,
Matthew
