Dear ABIS families,

This week has been another strong example of how learning at ABIS extends far beyond the classroom, with students across both the Primary and Secondary Schools engaging in meaningful, real-world experiences.

Our Grade 8 students have just returned from their sailing camp with Oman Sail at Mussanah Resort. The students worked together to achieve their Level 1 Sailing Qualification. They demonstrated impressive teamwork, problem-solving, and resilience as they navigated the winds and supported one another — clear evidence of the IB Approaches to Learning in action.

Currently, a group of our secondary students are in Muscat representing ABIS at the Model United Nations (MUN) conference. Through debate, negotiation, and representing various countries, they are developing critical-thinking, empathy, and international-mindedness, all core elements of the IB philosophy.

In the Primary School, students have been equally engaged in hands-on learning. Grade 5 students visited Sohar Port as part of their Unit of Inquiry on forces. The visit offered valuable opportunities to see how scientific concepts relate directly to real-world systems used in logistics and transport.

Grade 6 students also had a full and enriching week. They began with a “Brainy Bites” workshop led by guests from the University of Science and Technology, exploring nutrition and healthy lifestyles through experiments, movement, and a vibrant Zumba session. Later, during their overnight camp in Mussanah, students participated in activities that strengthened collaboration, confidence, and leadership.

Looking ahead, Grade 7 students are preparing for their Water Sports Camp at Sifah Beach, where they will continue developing teamwork and independence in a new learning environment.

Next week, on Monday, five students will go to Muscat to participate in The Little Reader radio programme. Congratulations to those selected for this excellent opportunity.

On Wednesday we will celebrate Oman’s National Day on Wednesday, 20th November. As space in the Mazoon Hall is limited when the entire school gathers, this will be a student-only assembly. Students are encouraged to wear traditional Omani dress or clothing in the colours of the national flag.

Thank you for your continued support. I wish all our students and families a restful and enjoyable weekend.
