This Week in Our Learning:
• We started the first higher level only work of literature. The students in higher level study two additional works of literature and our first text to study together is Persepolis. For our opening lesson, we explored the context of the novel. Examining the time and place, along with the political situation of the time and the view we are receiving from our main character. We then analyzed some of the scenes from the opening chapter. The students gleaned many important details from this quick examination. Ali, in particular, was able to succinctly explore the symbolic significance of the opening pages.
Looking Ahead:
• In the weeks to come, we will explore the specifics that come with studying a graphic novel and discuss themes like rebellion and what it means to be an adult.
