What an exciting week it was in Grade 5 as we went on our first field trip of the year to the port! It was great to see students excited and being able to name different forces and simple machines in action! We talked about where people used their understanding of forces and motion to solve problems.

In literacy we focused on imperative (bossy) verbs and adverbs which helps our instructions/directions to be more precise. We also explored different instructions, looking for these key words, and looking at the difference of instructions and a science report. In maths we explored protractors – what they are used for and how to use them. Students practised measuring and constructing angles. We also looked at different types of angles; right, acute and obtuse.

You can find more photos from the week here

Looking forward:

Students’ will be choosing a question related to forces and motion that they want to explore and will use the scientific method to conduct an experiment. In maths we will be exploring what area and perimeter is and how to find the area and perimeter of shapes. In literacy we will continue to practise writing precise steps/methods for our science experiments.

We would like to invite you to our celebration of learning – Grade 5’s Science Fair, which will be held on Sunday 23 November at 1:30pm – 2:20pm, more details to come.

Best regards, Miss Megan & Mr. G
