Hello Families,

This week, students have been exploring different reading strategies to help them become more confident and independent readers. Some groups focused on understanding new vocabulary, while others practiced using details from the text to make inferences and predictions.

Even if your child doesn’t work directly with me in small groups, these are strategies we encourage all readers to use at school and at home. You can support your child by asking questions like:

  • “What was the story about?”

  • “Who was your favorite character?”

  • “What do you think will happen next?”

A great way to encourage reading at home is by taking a few minutes to read together the books your child brings home from the library. Sharing that time together helps children develop a love for reading and builds confidence.

Also, don’t forget that Raz-Kids is a fantastic online resource where students can listen to stories, read along, and complete comprehension quizzes to check their understanding. It’s a fun and interactive way to strengthen reading skills!

Thank you for helping us build a strong community of readers! 🌟

Warmly,

Viviana Paez / EAL primary
