Dear parents,

This week has reminded me of the energy and creativity our students and teachers bring to ABIS. Across Primary and Secondary, I see young people taking ownership of their learning and teachers engaged in meaningful growth.

In Secondary, our Student Council impressed me with their practical, creative ideas. From a new information screen to a student “Dropbox” for suggestions, they are modelling leadership by shaping their own community. Our older students also attended the Edutrac Careers Conference in Muscat, where they spoke directly with universities and organisations. These conversations broaden horizons and help students imagine the pathways ahead.

In Primary and Secondary, I have been walking through classrooms simply to say hello and see how learning is unfolding. These short visits are always uplifting, I am continually impressed by the enthusiasm of our students and the thoughtful teaching I witness. I make a point of stopping to talk with students whenever I can, provided I am not disrupting the lesson, and those conversations are always insightful. Just yesterday, in a Grade 12 Arabic class, a student explained the text they were studying. She spoke articulately and with a maturity that was impressive. The energy in teaching and learning across the school reflects both curiosity and care, and it is a joy to see.

Today’s Professional Development Day brought all teachers together around two themes: student support and the responsible integration of Artificial Intelligence. The conversations were thoughtful and forward-looking, with staff sharing strategies on how best to support our students in their learning. Teachers also reflected on how to use innovation wisely while keeping student learning and integrity at the centre. It is vital that we examine AI and its role in education, as the world of AI is moving incredibly fast. We need to understand it, while exploring its use within an ethical and principled framework that protects students from over-reliance, misinformation, and risks to academic honesty. At the same time, we want to help them develop the skills to use AI critically and creatively—so that it becomes a tool for deeper learning, not a shortcut that undermines it.

I wish you and your families a restful weekend.
