Dear Primary Families,
Now that we have completed three weeks of school, I thought it would be a good opportunity to share one of the ways we build a positive classroom and school culture. At ABIS, we place great value on the IB PYP Learner Profiles—attributes that represent a wide range of capacities and responsibilities.
Our learners are not just gaining knowledge; they are also developing skills and qualities that are crucial for their personal, academic, and social growth, including critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and social skills.
Why are these attributes important? They’re the building blocks of becoming responsible, global citizens. We want our students to be curious about the world, actively engaged in their learning, and caring members of our school community.
By nurturing these qualities in our children, we help them become not only great learners but also empathetic and respectful individuals. They learn to appreciate themselves, understand others, and value the world around them.
When I visited Grade 5 earlier this week, I saw students working collaboratively to unpack the Learner Profiles and deepen their understanding of each attribute. Look out for photos from this session on our social media channels (Instagram and X).
After-School Activities (ASAs)
This week also marked the start of our After-School Activities. It was wonderful to see students eagerly trying new things and enjoying a wide variety of opportunities—from Ultimate Frisbee and chess to maths games and yoga. These activities are not just about having fun; they also encourage students to explore interests, take appropriate risks, and develop new skills beyond the classroom.
Parent Coffee Morning / Parent Workshop
On Tuesday, we will hold our first Parent Coffee Morning, combined with a Parent Workshop connected to our upcoming IB Evaluation. Further details will be shared in a NewsFlash. The Coffee Morning is an informal opportunity to connect with other parents and to meet with me and our Secondary Team Lead, Mr. Cooper. We hope you can join us.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend.
Best regards,
Matthew
Primary Team Lead
